Very much involved into Trench in Tel Aviv, Tal Gerber just moved to NYC after a few years in Belgium.
That's what it looks like when a Trench girl moves out there!
"The first thing I felt when we landed, after an exhausting flight, was jet-lag......................
But all of sudden, hardly emerging, my eyes caught up a large sign: “WELCOME TO NYC" and I could instantly feel the energy, the vibes, the electrical crowd of the city that never sleep. I started shouting as if nobody was around: I am in F***ing NYC, my dream has come true, the Big Apple, here I come!!!
The taxi arrives, we get in and the driver asks- where to?
First shock…that’s it, from now on, only English.
From the window: huge buildings, yellow cabs everywhere, noise, honks, people all over the place.

After we had settled down in a new apartment (which was a whole other crazy story), I finally got a chance to pause and think: now what? How do I start a new life? How will the city treat me?
Second shock… I got on the subway and found myself surrounded by blond girls, wearing sneakers and tights. WOW, would I fit into this? Do I want this kind of fashion? Do I have to?
Actually I don't... And this is precisely the great thing about New York. The more I walk around (and I walk a lot), the more I understand that you have different neighbourhoods, each of them with their specific and unique style. Soho, Chelsea, Williamsburg, Christopher street, Upper East Side... BIG mistake to mix it up!
But above all, here, and that's where the magic begins, you can simply wear whatever, whenever, wherever and NOBODY CARES!
This is the New York I had imagined, freedom of expression and fashion.
WOW this is SO different from where I used to live: Brussels, Belgium.
I fell in love with Europe, its style, its elegance... I knew every corner of Avenue Louise, the main street where you could find everything from Zara and Pull&Bear to Haute Couture. And not to be forgotten, every single corner has this very cute restaurant and its romantic French language in the background.
Deep down I think that I have always been a bit European in my style, always neat and carefully thinking of all details, colour matching!
These were three very special years of my life, travelling all around Europe, observing and learning what fashion really is. At one point, it simply grew on me and helped me to build who I am today.
While my husband worked for the embassy, I learnt how to dress in a sophisticated and flawless way.

But who I am today doesn't only come from my love for European Fashion or my amazement when I feel I am acting in Sex & the city... It has its roots deeper inside me and this is probably what I should have started with... It was born at the same time as I was, in a small country by the Mediterranean coast, where the sun shines whole year round: ISRAEL.
I studied fashion design in Tel-Aviv and had a business of women clothing. I loved every second of it but had this bursting desire to stand up, go out and see the world. To travel, to investigate, to hear other languages, see different people, experience other fashion, other styles!
And so did I...

Now in NYC, I work on my fashion blog with a lifestyle editor, basically fulfilling my dream of touching people all around the world with my ideas and style. Check out my Instagram @tal_gerber_246.
I had been told that everything is possible here, it's the American Dream Babes!

Remember girls, fashion never ends, it just recreates itself.
With love TAL."
